Lagos Police Arrest 52-Year-Old Man Over Alleged Defilement of 9-Year-Old Girl
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old man, identified as Tomswell Feyi, over the alleged sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl in Ebute Metta.
The suspect reportedly lives on the same street as the child on Aiyetoro Street, Ebute Metta, where the incident allegedly occurred.
According to a police source, the man allegedly lured the girl into his room and sexually assaulted her.
The incident came to light after the girl’s mother reported her disappearance at the Yaba Police Division.
The source said the child’s father had sent her to buy bread at about 9 p.m. on Thursday, but she failed to return home promptly.
Concerned about her whereabouts, her mother reportedly began searching for her about 20 minutes after she left home.
During the search, the woman encountered the suspect and asked whether he had seen her daughter.
The suspect allegedly told her that he had sent the girl on an errand, according to the source.
Suspicious of his explanation, the woman reportedly searched his room and found her daughter inside, crying.
The mother allegedly discovered that the child was bleeding from her genital area and immediately took her away.
The girl is currently receiving medical treatment at a government hospital following the alleged assault and the injuries she sustained.
Following the report, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, reportedly ordered the transfer of the case from the Yaba Police Division to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.
Detectives attached to the Gender and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit are handling the investigation, while the suspect remains in police custody.
The police source added that the suspect had been profiled and would be charged in court after the investigation is concluded.
