I Don’t Believe They Cannot Locate These Bandits— Buratai Challenges Security Claims

Former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, has questioned the repeated claims that security agencies are unable to trace armed bandits, arguing that such explanations do not align with the intelligence capacity available to the state.

He said it is difficult to accept that criminal groups operating openly and displaying ransom proceeds online cannot be tracked, especially when similar systems are used to locate and monitor ordinary citizens and social media influencers.

Speaking during an appearance on TVC, Buratai reacted to public anger over the growing confidence of armed gangs, who are often seen flaunting their activities without immediate arrest or disruption.

He insisted that the same tools used in digital surveillance and intelligence gathering should be sufficient to identify and locate those behind violent crimes.

Buratai added that security agencies must strengthen coordination and capacity, noting that criminal groups are constantly adapting their methods and using online platforms to project their operations.

He stressed that improved intelligence work and operational efficiency are critical to restoring public trust in the fight against insecurity.
