Gerald Meerschaert Retires From MMA After UFC Fight Night 290 Defeat
UFC veteran Gerald Meerschaert has announced his retirement from mixed martial arts following a second-round TKO loss to Julius Walker at UFC Fight Night 290. The 38-year-old ends a career that included a decade in the UFC and a middleweight record of 11 submission victories.
Speaking after the fight, Meerschaert said he had enjoyed his time competing but accepted that he could not fight forever. He revealed that he had been competing professionally since 2007, accumulating 60 professional fights alongside several unrecorded bouts, and admitted that age had caught up with him.

The American fighter said he plans to move into the corporate world, where he hopes to build a stable career and provide for his family. His retirement follows six consecutive defeats, bringing an end to a long MMA journey that saw him establish himself as one of the UFC middleweight division’s most successful submission specialists.
