Four Children Die After Allegedly Drinking Soft Drink From Relative

Four siblings have reportedly died after falling ill several days after sharing a soft drink allegedly given to them by a relative.

The children, aged 12, seven, five and three, died last week in Amufu community, Edumoga, Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.

Idoma activist Meddy Olotu drew attention to the incident after sharing a video detailing the tragedy on Facebook.

The children’s father alleged that a relative, identified as Anthony Adam, gave the siblings the drink while he was away from home.

He said the children developed health problems two to three days later.

According to him, he took one of the children to hospital before returning to make arrangements for the others.

He later discovered that another child had fallen ill, while the condition of the siblings continued to deteriorate.

The father said one child died first, followed by two others, who reportedly died by 7am the next day.

He added that his eldest son died around noon on the same day.

Describing the experience as devastating, the father said he attempted to end his life but was stopped by people around him.

He said Adam and his son had denied any knowledge of what caused the children to become ill.

A video circulating on social media also appeared to show community youths taking Adam away after reportedly apprehending him.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear, and no evidence has been presented publicly linking Adam to the deaths.

Attempts to obtain comments from the Benue State Police Command were unsuccessful before the report was filed.

The police have yet to publicly confirm the cause of death or provide details of any investigation into the incident.
