Ebola lnfections Climb Again in Eastern Congo as Outbreak Pressure lntensifies

Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo say new infections linked to Ebola Virus Disease are continuing to rise, signalling a deepening strain on containment efforts in the country’s east.

The outbreak remains largely concentrated in Ituri province, where transmission chains are still active and surveillance teams are tracking dozens of suspected contacts under close monitoring.

Officials say response operations are being pushed into remote and difficult terrain, where insecurity and limited access are slowing down case detection and timely intervention.

At treatment centres in Bunia, recovered patients have begun to be discharged after testing negative, offering brief moments of relief inside an otherwise tense public health response.

Health workers warn that early reporting and rapid isolation remain critical, as delays continue to fuel the risk of wider community spread.

Despite the growing pressure, authorities insist containment is still possible, even as neighbouring countries step up border checks to reduce cross-border transmission.
