Cristiano Ronaldo Faces Suspension as Portugal FA Takes Disciplinary Action
Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo is facing possible disciplinary consequences after the Portuguese Football Federation opened proceedings against the football superstar following events during the recent international break.

The federation confirmed the decision on October 10, 2026, after its non-professional section initiated proceedings against the 41-year-old forward, who remains Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer.
The development follows a disagreement involving Ronaldo and national team head coach Jorge Jesus during preparations for Portugal’s recent Nations League fixtures, according to reports.
Ronaldo subsequently left the national team camp before Portugal’s match against Denmark, informing the federation of his departure before returning to his Saudi Arabian club, Al Nassr.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has since resumed club duties, scoring during Al Nassr’s 3-0 victory over Diriyah on Friday, October 9, according to the report.
In a statement addressing his departure, Ronaldo accepted responsibility for his actions and apologised to his international teammates, while maintaining that his trust in the coach had been damaged.
The Portugal captain also stated that his position within the squad should not exempt him from disciplinary consequences, insisting that the federation should assess his conduct and determine an appropriate punishment.
Reports indicate that Portugal’s football regulations provide for suspensions ranging from one month to six months when a player abandons national team activities.
Despite the dispute, Ronaldo has expressed his desire to continue representing Portugal, having made 234 international appearances and scored 146 goals for his country.

Portugal are scheduled to face Denmark and Wales in Nations League matches next month, although the federation’s disciplinary process could affect Ronaldo’s availability for the upcoming fixtures.
