Burkina Faso Marks Traoré’s Four Years in Power With Mass Rally
Thousands of people gathered in Burkina Faso’s capital, Ouagadougou, on Wednesday evening as supporters of President Ibrahim Traoré marked four years since the military takeover that brought him to power.

The gathering, organised by the government, took place at Revolution Square under the banner of the “Night of the RPP,” reflecting Traoré’s push to establish the Popular Progressive Revolution as a defining political movement in the country.
Music, cultural performances and speeches in support of the government filled the venue, while the event was broadcast live on national television.
Many participants carried portraits of Traoré as Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo described the turnout as a “historic mobilization” of citizens committed to the government’s revolutionary agenda.
Traoré, who was 38 at the time of the reported event, has promoted a political programme centred on greater national sovereignty, reducing Burkina Faso’s dependence on its former colonial power, France, and strengthening domestic control over the country’s natural resources.
His administration has also placed greater emphasis on processing raw materials within Burkina Faso instead of exporting them in largely unprocessed form.
The government has pointed to the recent inauguration of a gold refinery as an example of its efforts to expand local processing and increase the country’s control over its mineral wealth.
The anniversary gathering comes as Traoré seeks to entrench his administration and establish the Popular Progressive Revolution as a lasting political narrative in Burkina Faso.
Similar gatherings were also reported in other parts of the country, with supporters using the anniversary to express backing for the military-led government and its stated programme of national transformation.
