Flávio Bolsonaro Seeks Annulment of Brazil’s Election Result After Lula’s Victory
Brazilian right-wing Senator Flávio Bolsonaro has called for the annulment of the country’s presidential election after losing to incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The demand follows Lula’s victory in the October 25 runoff, in which he secured nearly 4.4 million more votes than his rival, according to Brazil’s electoral authority.
Bolsonaro described the circumstances surrounding the election as “unprecedented”, pointing to a last-minute decision to extend voting hours by two hours. The extension followed requests from both candidates, with Lula citing transport difficulties in São Paulo and Salvador, while Bolsonaro raised concerns over heavy rainfall in southern Brazil.

The challenge adds another layer of political tension following Lula’s fourth, non-consecutive presidential victory. Bolsonaro’s demand for annulment comes as the result marks a significant moment for Brazil’s democracy and its political direction, with questions over the election process now drawing fresh attention.
