Jeff Bezos Predicts Millions Will Live in Space by 2045, Says Robots Could Work on the Moon
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has predicted that millions of people could be living in space by 2045, as advances in technology accelerate humanity’s expansion beyond Earth. Speaking at Italian Tech Week 2025, the Blue Origin founder said many people would choose to live in space, while robots could handle dangerous or costly jobs on the Moon and other planetary surfaces.

Bezos argued that technological inventions, including artificial intelligence, would increase human prosperity rather than necessarily destroy jobs or threaten civilisation. His vision echoes predictions by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Tesla and SpaceX chief Elon Musk, who have also expressed optimism about future employment and human settlement beyond Earth. Voyager Technologies CEO Dylan Taylor has similarly predicted that people could live and work in space as early as the 2030s.

Meanwhile, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates believes AI could transform working life by allowing machines to handle more tasks and potentially reducing the traditional working week to just two days. While these predictions differ in their timelines and priorities, they reflect a growing debate among technology leaders about how innovation could reshape employment, daily life and humanity’s future.
