TETFund unveils 13 projects to boost medical training in Bauchi
The Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, has unveiled 13 projects at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, FUHSA, in Bauchi State, to strengthen medical education, research and healthcare training.
Speaking during the unveiling, TETFund Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, called for increased investment in training medical personnel despite the continued migration of Nigerian health professionals abroad.
Echono said Nigeria needed to strengthen its capacity to produce more health professionals to meet domestic healthcare needs while allowing them to contribute their expertise internationally.
He also disclosed that TETFund’s Board of Trustees had recommended contracts for eight medical simulation centres nationwide to the Federal Executive Council for consideration, with FUHSA among the proposed beneficiary institutions.
The projects, which include laboratories, lecture theatres, student hostels and research facilities, are designed to improve learning conditions and equip students with the skills needed to become health professionals.
The simulation centres are expected to enhance practical training by providing students with opportunities to develop clinical skills in controlled learning environments.
The Vice-Chancellor of FUHSA, Professor Bala Audu, said TETFund had played a significant role in developing the institution since its establishment in 2021.
Audu called for continued support to expand the university’s facilities and strengthen its capacity to train doctors and other healthcare professionals.
The projects form part of ongoing efforts to improve medical education infrastructure, strengthen health research and increase Nigeria’s capacity to produce skilled healthcare workers.
