Teenager Wakes Up Inside Coffin During Her Own Funeral
A 15-year-old girl, Yuleidy Ixcotoyac, has stunned her family after waking up inside a coffin during her funeral, hours after her father believed she had died.
Yuleidy reportedly collapsed while her father, Abraham Ixcotoyac, was taking her to a medical facility. He stopped the vehicle and checked for signs of life.
Her father, an evangelical pastor, said he could neither detect her pulse nor feel her breathing. He subsequently believed his daughter had died.
Abraham declared her dead in the early hours of Saturday without taking her to a hospital for medical confirmation, according to reports.
“She had simply ceased to exist, she died on the way,” he reportedly told local media, according to The Sun.
He explained that he could not feel a pulse on her wrists or detect breathing, describing the experience as extremely distressing for him.
However, no medical professional had confirmed Yuleidy’s death, and no official death certificate had been issued before funeral preparations began.
Her family purchased a coffin and organised a funeral approximately eight hours after she collapsed. Mourners gathered at their home in El Jocote, Guatemala.
The funeral took an unexpected turn when her mother, Lesvia Ríos, noticed movement inside the coffin while crying over what she believed was her daughter’s body.
Footage of the incident reportedly shows the grieving mother alerting other mourners after noticing signs that the teenager was still alive.
“I kept saying she was alive; she wasn’t dead,” Lesvia reportedly told local media, describing her reaction to the unexpected discovery.
She explained that she had been crying over the coffin when the family opened its viewing window and noticed Yuleidy moving.
“When I was crying on top of her casket, we opened the window and she was moving, she was waking up and suddenly she sat up,” she said.
The family watched in disbelief as Yuleidy, dressed in a pink T-shirt, suddenly sat upright inside the coffin and began speaking.
Her relatives quickly helped her out of the casket and gave her water. The atmosphere of grief soon turned into celebration.
Some family members were heard shouting “hallelujah” as they realised the teenager was alive, transforming the funeral into an extraordinary family reunion.
Yuleidy later described experiencing severe chest pain before losing consciousness, recounting the frightening moments that preceded her apparent death.
“My heart started hurting really badly, it felt heavy and then I blacked out, like I fainted,” she said.
The teenager is reportedly conscious and recovering at home following the incident. She also expressed gratitude to God for surviving the frightening ordeal.
The circumstances surrounding her collapse and the reported absence of detectable vital signs remain unclear, as the account provides no confirmed medical explanation.
