Bear Kills Man, Critically Injures Woman in Mongolia Home Attack
A bear has killed a man in his 40s and seriously injured a woman in her 50s during an attack at their home in Bayanzurkh district, on the outskirts of Mongolia’s capital, Ulaanbaatar. The incident occurred on October 8, with the injured woman escaping to seek help from neighbours before being taken to hospital.
Authorities have deployed 35 rangers to search for the bear and warned residents to remain vigilant. Mongolia’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change reported 754 bear sightings across 11 provinces and the capital, with at least 80 per cent involving cubs or female bears accompanied by their young.
Environmentalists have linked the increase in bear encounters to climate change and food scarcity. Similar incidents have been reported in Russia and Japan, where rising bear populations and more frequent encounters with humans have heightened concerns about public safety.
