20 NYSC Corps Members Abducted In Imo Regain Freedom
Twenty NYSC corps members abducted while travelling to orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states have regained their freedom in Imo State.

The corps members were travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, when they were attacked near Umunoha in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State on October 1.
The abductors initially demanded N1 billion as ransom before reportedly reducing the amount to N100 million.
Security agencies rescued the 20 corps members on Wednesday from Amakohia-Ubi forest in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.
Security sources said the rescue followed a coordinated operation involving different security agencies.
The rescued NYSC members were taken to the Department of State Services (DSS) Hospital in Owerri for medical attention and necessary medical checks.
Their rescue came six days after they were abducted while travelling through Imo State.
Governor Hope Uzodimma commended the security agencies for securing the release of the corps members.
In a statement he personally signed, Uzodimma also praised the cooperation between the Imo and Oyo state governments during efforts to free the victims.
The governor said authorities deliberately kept details of the operation private because of the security implications and the need to protect the lives of the captives.
He expressed satisfaction with the discreet and coordinated manner in which security agencies handled the rescue operation.
Uzodimma also thanked the security personnel involved, describing their collaborative approach as crucial to securing the freedom of the abducted corps members.

The rescue has brought an end to the six-day ordeal of the 20 NYSC corps members abducted in Imo State.
