CAF Considers Backup Hosts for AFCON 2027 Amid Kenya, Uganda Delays

The Confederation of African Football is reportedly exploring alternative hosting options for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations as concerns grow over delays to preparations in Kenya and Uganda.

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are scheduled to jointly host the tournament from June 19 to July 17, 2027. However, CAF inspections have reportedly raised concerns over unfinished stadiums, accommodation and other logistical requirements.

According to reports cited by GOAL, CAF has contacted Morocco, South Africa and Algeria about possible contingency plans, while Ivory Coast and Egypt are also being considered. CAF president Patrice Motsepe has expressed confidence in the East African hosts, but further inspections are expected before a final decision is made.
