On this day in 1911, the Mona Lisa was stolen by Vincenzo Peruggia, a Louvre employee.

Still on this day in 1986, Carbon dioxide gas erupted from volcanic Lake Nyos in Cameroon, killing up to 1,800 people within a 20-kilometre (12 mi) range.

Again, on this date in 1993, NASA lost contact with the Mars Observer spacecraft.

It was on this day in 1994 that the Royal Air Maroc Flight 630 crashed in Douar Izounine, Morocco, killing all 44 people on board.

Today in history, 2000 precisely, American golfer Tiger Woods won the 82nd PGA Championship and became the first golfer since Ben Hogan in 1953 to win three majors in a calendar year.

Today is World Senior Citizen’s Day. The World Senior Citizen’s Day is celebrated on 21 August each year. Although this celebration is observed by the United States Of America, it’s important to know the essence of this cFelebration. It took place for the first time in 1991. The day is intended to increase awareness of the factors and issues that affect older adults, such as health deterioration and elder abuse. It is also a day to recognize and acknowledge the contributions of older people to society.
