Opelka Backs Usman After Controversial UFC Defeat to Du Plessis
American tennis star Reilly Opelka has thrown his support behind Kamaru Usman following the Nigerian’s unanimous decision loss to Dricus du Plessis in the UFC Oklahoma City main event. Opelka shared a photo of Usman on his Instagram Story with a GOAT emoji, praising the former welterweight champion despite the defeat.
Usman questioned one of the judges’ scorecards after the fight, saying he could not understand the 50-45 verdict. He also revealed that an accidental thumb to his left eye early in the contest affected his vision and made it difficult to judge distance and execute his wrestling effectively.
Despite Usman’s late surge, Du Plessis dominated much of the bout, landing 136 significant strikes compared to Usman’s 92, earning a unanimous decision victory and improving his professional record to 24-3.
