Woman Says She Unknowingly Gave Birth While Asleep, Baby Found Under Blankets
A Canadian mother has shared the frightening story of how she unknowingly gave birth while asleep, saying the experience left her deeply shaken despite her baby being born healthy.

Carolina Moreno, a 27-year-old mother of three, recently recounted the incident in a TikTok video that has attracted widespread attention. Her youngest child is now three months old.
According to Moreno, she was induced after testing positive for Group B Streptococcus (GBS), a common bacterial infection that required doctors to administer antibiotics before inducing labour.
Since she was already three centimetres dilated and her cervix had thinned, medical staff decided to begin the process immediately.
A few hours later, her water was broken and she was given Pitocin to stimulate contractions. As labour intensified, Moreno requested an epidural because she was experiencing significant discomfort and her baby was not positioned properly.
She explained that it took longer than expected for the epidural to take effect, prompting her to press the medication button several times before she finally became comfortable enough to fall asleep. Her husband, sister and cousin remained in the delivery room.
While she slept, nurses continued routine checks on the baby’s heartbeat. When the monitor repeatedly failed to detect the heartbeat, a nurse entered the room to reposition the monitor, believing the baby had simply moved, something that had happened several times earlier.
However, as more time passed without locating the heartbeat, Moreno woke up and became increasingly alarmed. Fearing something had gone terribly wrong, she followed the nurse’s instruction to turn onto her back.
It was then that the nurse noticed Moreno’s abdomen felt unusually different. As Moreno shifted her legs, she felt something on the bed. To her horror, the nurse lifted the blankets and discovered her newborn lying face down beneath them.
Moreno said she immediately feared the worst because the baby was silent and had apparently been under the blankets for several minutes. The nurse quickly picked him up and stimulated him until he began to cry.
Her husband initially believed he had simply missed the birth before realizing everyone in the room had been unaware that the baby had already been delivered.
Reflecting on the incident, Moreno said doctors later explained that her son had effectively delivered himself while she slept, which was why nurses could no longer detect his heartbeat on the monitor.

Although the ordeal left her traumatized, Moreno said her son was born in perfect health. She described him as an exceptionally calm baby who rarely cries, adding that he has been the easiest of her three children to care for.
