Argentina Overcomes Two-Goal Deficit in Epic Comeback Victory Against Egypt
Argentina miraculously advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals after securing a breathtaking 3-2 victory against a resilient Egypt side at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The Pharaohs stunned the defending champions early on as Yasser Ibrahim found the net with a thunderous header, followed by a clinical counter-attack finish from Mostafa Ziko that extended their lead to 2-0.
The legendary Lionel Messi missed an important first-half penalty but single-handedly ignited the Albiceleste comeback by orchestrating a spectacular late-game offensive surge.
After Cristian Romero brought Argentina back into the game with a powerful header, Messi smashed home a brilliant left-foot half-volley to equalizer before Enzo Fernandez rose highest in stoppage time to loop in the dramatic match-winner.
This agonizing defeat brings an end to Egypt’s historic and celebrated knockout stage run under manager Hossam Hassan.
Meanwhile, Lionel Scaloni’s battle-tested squad keeps their World Cup title defense alive and shifts focus to a highly anticipated quarterfinal matchup in Kansas City.
