A 26-year-old man, Victor John, was arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for allegedly obtaining the sum of N1.1 million under false pretence.
The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in 2025 at about 2.20 p.m. at Ewupe, Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendant fraudulently obtained N1.1 million under the false pretence of carrying out tiling work for the complainant, Mohammad Ogunniyi.
He further alleged that the defendant converted the money to his personal use instead of carrying out the tiling work requested by the complainant.
John, whose address was not provided, is facing a one-count charge of fraud, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
Fadairo ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government.
She adjourned the case until March 10 for further hearing.
